Since Canadian Thanksgiving went largely unnoticed here in the Colonies (it was October 10th thank-you very much) Halloween was the twins first big holiday. As participants in the massive baby industrial complex, we went with the basic and wildly popular baby food outfits. We were also led to believe that our babies would look adorably contented and wholesome, like this:
Cathy was also thinking of bringing the twins down to the lobby of our building where the staff had put together a little Halloween display with tombstones, strobe lights to induce a seizure, and three inflatable pumpkins crushing a pair of witch legs to induce a lifetime of nightmares.
The whole thing didn’t quite work. Problem number one. The baby industrial complex doesn’t really make costumes for six- pound one-month old babies (untapped market I tell you) so the boys were swimming in them. Problem number two, Owen was a bit, well . . . futsy, and freaked out when he was put into his pea pod. Problem number three, Brendan decided to pass out. Hardly ideal for a photo shoot in the lobby. Nevertheless, if the experience wasn’t perfect, Cathy did squeeze off a couple pictures before Owen tore through his outfit and ended the affair.
